Ferdinand, Ralph E & Eleanor C

He was born Ralph Edmund Ferdinand on the second of May 1900 in Winthrop, Massachusetts to Arthur Gilman &  Hattie May (Joslin) Ferdinand. There he resided with his family at 63 Temple Road. He registered for the U.S. World War I Draft on the tenth of October 1918 to serve in the Army.  At the time of registering for the WW1 draft, Ralph was a student at M.I.T in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ralph was a man of medium stature with blue eyes and brown hair.

Much of his life, Ralph worked for the Joslin Showcase Company of Boston and Cambridge. A business that began with his Uncle, Edmund Joslin (brother of Ralph's mother). Ralph started as a sales representative before becoming the general manager about 1938.  After his uncle's death in 1944 he became the owner.

The Joslin Showcase Co. was the principal supplier of interior store equipment to the Jordan Marsh Company of Boston and other stores all over New England. Joslin supplied most of the interior furnishings for Jordan's new store at the Framingham Shoppers World, built after the end of World War II.
Ra Elelph marriedanor Constance Dunn, daughter of John and Elizabeth Whelan Dunn on May 20, 1930. They lived in an apartment in Quincy, Mass., and then bought a home at 75 Maple Street, Milton, Mass., in 1937. In 1962, they winterized and moved into their former summer house on the South River in Marshfield, Mass.

Ralph suffered from periods of mental depression in his mid-forties. He sold the showcase business in 1956, during one of these depressions and semi-retired.

In 1964, Ralph purchased the Tides Motel at Chatham, on Cape Cod and operated it for two years. In 1968, he purchased and operated another Cape Cod motel property for a year. His wife, Eleanor, shouldered a great deal of responsibility in Ralph's later enterprises due to his recurring depressions.

Ralph had a strong interest in religion and supported all churches. He particularly enjoyed his class reunions at MIT and had a s
incere desire to help those less fortunate.

Ralph and Eleanor had two sons: Paul Joslin Ferdinand and Warren Arthur Ferdinand.

Ralph died on the twenty-third day of December 1974 at South Weymouth, Massachusetts of injuries received from being struck by an automobile on Plain Street (Rt 139) in Marshfield on the eleventh of December while trying to cross the street.

Bradley, Joseph H (1878-1952) - Marshfield Farmer 1935-1952 on Cornhill Avenue.

The 1940 Census for Marshfield shows that Joseph H. Bradley was a sixty-three years old, single male, who was born in New York, renting a farm on Cornhill Avenue on which he conducted his own farming business.   He was the second to the youngest child and second son of Michael & Jane Bradley of New York City, New York, who immigrated from Ireland to the US.  His siblings were George (b. 1867), Mary (b.1868), Kate (b.1875) and Elizabeth (b.1879).  What could have brought him out here to take up farming in Marshfield?

According to the 1940 census, Raymond M. Haak Jr was the oldest of three children born to Raymond M. & Bertha Haak. At that time, he was still single and living at 260 Fayette Street in Palmyra, Wayne, New York.  Since this residence is the same as in 1935, perhaps it is his birthplace.  His siblings were a Robert "Bob" Haak, born about 1931, and a sister Elaine Ann (Haak) Macca, born about 1937. He graduated from M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1950.

Steven J. Ahmuty, Jr.  They have two sons - Steven J. III and Tyler H.  Her brother, and his wife have three children.

Still no luck on how Marshfield, Mass came to be their final resting place. Hopefully someone can add this piece of information to complete there story.

Update - his wife, Del, was the connection to Marshfield.  She graduated from Marshfield High:

In sadness, we mourn the sudden passing of Delores (Del) Haak, age 86, of Southbury, Connecticut on April 4, 2017.  Beloved wife of the late Raymond M. Haak.  Born on September 28, 1930, Del graduated from Marshfield High School and Mt. Ida Junior College.  She was the consummate homemaker and loving mother, fun, charming and easy going.  Del was always the life of the party.  She loved helping other people, visiting them when they were ill and comforting them.  Del had many interests and hobbies, especially traveling. Gardening was her true joy; she was happiest digging in the dirt with mud under her nails.  Del is survived by her loving fiancĂ©, Forest  Herron. Wonderful mother to Cindy Ahmuty and Chip Haak.  Adoring grandmother to Trace and Tyler Ahmuty, and Morgan, Carter and Payton Haak.  A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on June 10, 2017 at the Watermark, Southbury, CT.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, Tucker Road, Middlebury, CT 06762 or The United Church of Christ, 283 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488.
