Our subject was born George Omar Anthony Gelinas in Boston, Massachusetts on the thirteenth of June, 1906 at 64 Mozart Street. His parents were Omar & Emma E (Gervais) Gelinas. His father was born in Canada and his mother was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts according to the birth record for George.

The 1920 Census shows George at age 13 living with his parents, both of French Canadian descent, and living at 614 Liberty Street in Rockland, Massachusetts.   He was the eldest son and second born of seven children born in this family.  His older sister, Jacqueline M Gelinas, was born about 1904.  At this time they had five younger siblings - Harriet Gelinas (born about 1907),  Harold P. Gelinas (born about 1909), Alice Louise Gelinas (born about 1912), Olra (born about 1915) and Geraldine C. Gelinas (born about 1916).  All these Gelinas children were born in Massachusetts.

Now we fast-forward forty years to 1930 where the census now shows George O married to a lady named Gertrude.  They are renting at 40 Forest Avenue in Brockton, Massachusetts.  They have no children at this time and are both twenty-three years old. George is working as an assistant manager in an insurance company, and his wife is at home.

According to the 1940 census record, George and Gertrude were renting at 48 Morris Street, in Hamden, New Haven, Connecticut.   They had four children by now - George Omar Jr, b 1931;  Gereth S, b. 1934;  Gail, b. 1937 and Gerard, b. 1939.

His oldest of their children, George Omar Gelinas Jr., was born on the twentieth of May 1931 in Connecticut.  He married at least three times, unknown about his first, however he married (2) about 1969, to Deborah --- in Connecticut.  They were divorced in 1981 in New Haven, Connecticut.  He married (3) Jeanne Elizabeth Holmes on the twenty-sixth day of October, 2001 in Collier County, Florida.  Records indicate he did have at least one son by a first wife, George O Gelinas III.  His son was born on the sixteenth of April 1958 in Connecticut.

Their second oldest, Gereth S was born on the tenth of October 1934 and raised in Manchester, Connecticut. He went on to become an insurance agent.  He married a lady by the name of Irene ---.

We have learned a little on George’s life, his parents, his wife, and their four children. He died in Boston, Massachusetts on the fifteen of November 1975.  His last residence was in Manchester, Connecticut at age sixty-nine with his wife, WInni. Leaving one question - what was George doing in Marshfield?  What is his connection to our town that led him to be interred in Marshfield Hills cemetery?   Perhaps someone knows the details missing and can fill in the blanks.
